Elvis impersonator raises cash for pool

MARSEILLES - Enjoy Elvis impersonators? Well, here's your chance to be entertained. Professional Elvis impersonator Dave Stovall of Pekin will be on stage with songs, dance moves, and a spectacular light show at the Marseilles Elementary School on Saturday, Oct. 11. The doors open at 6 p.m., followed by the three-hour show at 7 p.m. An Elvis entertainer the past 20 years, Stovall has won every Elvis competition he has entered. He has performed with Ed Enoch and The Stamps Quartet, the back-up vocalists for the late legendary Elvis Presley from 1971 to 1977. He has also performed for more than 15 years during the Elvis Tribute Week at the Presley home, Graceland Mansion in Memphis. The event is a fundraiser for the Marseilles Swimming Pool, which has a goal of $35,000 to purchase a water slide and basketball hoop for the large pool, and a kiddie slide for the baby pool. Chairman Rose Rieuf of the Marseilles Pool Fund Committee said several other fundraising events this year have added $25,000 to the fund. “We hope to raise the remaining $10,000 through the Elvis concert,” she said. The goal is attainable with the concert and some other donations, she noted. Rieuf said the event is the final fundraiser for the committee, which, during the past five years, has replaced the concrete floor of the pool, installed all new plumbing and electrical wiring, and replaced the roof on the bath house. The committee has also raised funding to remodel the inside of the bath house and install new exterior siding, and to purchase sun umbrellas, plus tables and chairs, for the pool deck. “We've added many other improvements, too,” she said. “This has all been accomplished through contributions, raffles, fundraisers, and many hours of donated labor.” Rieuf said orders for the slides and basketball hoop will be placed after the Elvis concert, with the items ready for installation early next spring. The pool is a non-profit venture built and paid for the by Marseilles Lions Club, and donated by the organization to the city several years ago. Tickets to the Elvis concert are $15 each.
