Mother, daughters organize car wash to raise funds for Breast Cancer 3-Day
Minooka family needs to raise $2,300 per person for event
MINOOKA — Lori Wilke and her two teenage daughters, April, 16, and Amanda, 15, all of Minooka have organized a car wash fundraiser to be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 28, in the parking lot of the Ace Hardware/Bean Encounters on Ridge Road. The effort is aimed to raise money for the Chicago Breast Cancer 3-Day.
The Wilke Family will join thousands of other dedicated women and men for the Chicago Breast Cancer 3-Day to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer. The three-day, 60-mile walk benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund requires months of physical and financial preparation, challenge and triumph. Participants commit to raising $2,300 per person in order to participate and follow a four to sixth month physical training program.
“We decided to participate in the Breast Cancer 3-Day because we have distant family members and friends who have fought and lost their lives to breast cancer, and we wanted to make a personal difference to help fight the disease,” said Wilke. “With Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust as beneficiaries of the Breast Cancer 3-Day, I know we are accomplishing this by helping ensure funding is available for important research, education and community health programs.
“I hope to exceed the fundraising goal with our car wash fundraiser.”
Both April and Amanda play soccer for Minooka Community High School. They are getting together some members of the team and other friends to help wash.
If you would like to volunteer, please contact Lori Wilke at lawilke66@yahoo.com.
“Despite the state of the economy, the outpouring of support thus far has been great,” said Wilke. “It is very rewarding to know our commitment has brought so many people together in support of our team’s bold efforts to raise funds to end breast cancer.”
A minimum donation of $10 is requested for the car wash.
If you are unable to make it to the car wash, you can also help them reach their goal by making a donation directly to their online donation page at www.the3day.org/go to wilkeswalkers.
