Five area drivers face DUI charges

FIVE drivers were charged with DUI by Grundy County deputies during the weekend.

Alejandro Becerra, 43, 1205 Price St., was charged with DUI, improper lane usage and not having proof of insurance about 1 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5 near Division and Benton streets.

Deputy Brett Black reported Becerra, while driving a Saturn northbound on Division Street, went over the white lane line, then almost hit the curb.

After stopping the car, the deputy reported Becerra appeared intoxicated and held on to the door of the vehicle when he got out.

Becerra failed to field sobriety tests and was charged with DUI. At the county jail, he submitted to the Breathalyzer test and registered .151 (.08 is legal intoxication).

Becerra posted $100 and his driver's license and was given a Sept. 21 court date.

Kenneth Quiett, 29, 1080 E. North, Coal City, was charged with DUI on Braceville Road, west of Broadway, about 8:20 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7.

Deputy Black reported he saw a silver Ford Ranger being driven eastbound on Braceville Road, and the driver went over the center line and the fog line.

After stopping the truck, the deputy reported Quiett could not find an insurance card and appeared intoxicated. He failed the field sobriety tests and was charged with DUI. He was also ticketed for improper lane usage, not having proof of insurance and improper display of registration.

At the jail, Quiett registered .139 on the Breathalyzer test. He posted $300 bond and was given a Sept. 28 court date.

Brett Hale, 21, Shorewood, was charged with DUI about 2:30 a.m. Saturday on Pine Bluff Road near Shirley Court.

Deputy Paul Clampitt reported he saw Hale going 69 in a 55 mph zone while driving westbound on Pine Bluff Road. He also saw the registration on his vehicle had expired.

After stopping the vehicle at Shirley Lane, Deputy Clampitt reported Hale smelled of liquor and appeared intoxicated. Hale failed the field sobriety tests and was charged with DUI. An open bottle of beer was found in the vehicle.

At the jail, Hale registered .093 on the Breathalyzer test.

Also ticketed for going 69 in a 55 mph zone, improper lane usage, illegal transportation of liquor and going 69 in a 55 mph zone, Hale posted $100 and his driver's license and was given a Sept. 28 court date.
