Gordon: Legislators could learn from Rotary Club
State Rep. has in-depth discussion with Rotarians
MINOOKA — Careen M. Gordon, state representative 75th District, said the Four-Way Test that all Rotarians abide by could be helpful to many in Springfield as they make decisions that affect everyone in Illinois.
Gordon shared those sentiments during the Channahon-Minooka Rotary Club’s meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Gordon was the program speaker.
The Rotary Four Way Test, which has been translated into more than 100 languages world-wide, asks the following questions of the things we think, say or do:
• Is it the truth?
• Is it fair to all concerned?
• Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
• Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Representative Gordon gave a candid and honest talk to the Rotary Club members and guests.
She covered a wide variety of topics that ranged from the economic climate in the State of Illinois, to tough decisions that must be made in light of budget concerns and the roles that the print and electronic media play in reporting the facts from the area and from the State Capitol.
After she concluded her remarks, Representative Gordon graciously answered multiple questions from those in attendance. She also posed questions to the Club and noted the diversity of opinions and answers that were received.
As a small token of appreciation, Club President Noreen Dollinger presented the State Representative with an official Channahon – Minooka Rotary Club pen.
State Representative Careen Gordon has been a member of the General Assembly since December 2003.
A former criminal prosecutor, Gordon has used her service in the General Assembly to advance measures to keep our communities safe.
Gordon’s top priority as state representative is to be an open and accessible advocate for everyone in the 75th District — Democrats, Republicans and Independents alike.
Rotary International is the world’s first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide.
Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto “Service Above Self.”
