DIAMOND, Ill. – Mrs. Naomi J. Brown, 83, of Diamond, Ill., passed away at her home Friday, Oct. 23, 2009.

Visitation and video tribute will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, at Reeves Funeral Home, 75 North Broadway (one block North of Illinois 113), Coal City.

Mrs. Brown will then lie in state on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 80 North Garfield Street (at First Street), Coal City, from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10 a.m. Pastor Heidi Johnson will officiate and burial will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.

Born Oct. 10, 1926, in Springfield, Illinois, Mrs. Brown was a daughter of the late David O. and Grace Tinsley-Dodd. She was raised and educated in Springfield, Ill., and after high school, attended nurses training.

On July 31, 1948, she married Jesse R. Brown. He preceded her in death on July 4, 2004.

Mrs. Brown worked at Morris Hospital and Lincoln Nursing Home, as well as practiced as a private duty nurse. She and her husband owned and operated Shabbona Camping Resort for a number of years.

A member of New Hope Presbyterian Church in Coal City and the Eastern Star, she was known for her love of painting and writing poetry, and she truly enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren.

Survivors include four children, R. Brother Roger Mark Brown, SSJE, of Cambridge, Mass., Kathy (James Sr.) Martis of Coal City, Ill., David (Kim) Brown of Minooka, Ill., and Gordon K. Brown of Coal City; five grandchildren, James Jr. (Stacey) Martis of Coal City, Brian Brown of Cobden, Ill., Kirt Brown of Wilmington, Ill., Ashley Brown of Colorado, and Hayley Brown of Minooka; three great grandchildren, Blake Adams, Chase Adams and Addison Martis; one sister, Jeanne (John) Parret of Springfield, Ill.; and brothers- and sisters-in-law Ed Beck of Mt. Prospect, Ill., Katie Dodd of Springfield, Ill., Robert R. (Florence) Brown of Jacksonville, Ill., Alice Brown of Springfield, Ill., and Mary Rasmussen of Orange, Calif.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jesse; two sisters, Pearl L. Beck and Mary M. Magill; and one brother, Charles M. Dodd.
