The village of Minooka filed suit in circuit court Tuesday, Oct. 27, seeking to collect $187,168 to complete the public improvements in Prairie Ridge subdivision.

Filed against Carolina Casualty Insurance, Rollings Meadows, the village is seeking to collect on a surety bond filed for Neumann Homes.

The complaint charged in 2002 the village entered into an annexation agreement with Neumann Homes for Prairie Ridge, a subdivision to consist of 209 single family homes and 148 townhouses.

Carolina Casualty provided the surety bond totaling $2,117,880. On Sept. 9, 2003, the village and Neumann entered into an agreement on the public improvements to be included in the subdivision.

On Nov. 1, 2007, Neumann filed for bankruptcy and defaulted on its obligation to complete the public improvements.

Engineers for the village have determined the cost of completing the public improvements is $187,168. The village is seeking that amount plus costs, fees and six percent interest.
