Local student given scholarship for second consecutive year

Elizabeth Johnson was recently awarded a scholarship by the Illinois Judicial Council. The scholarship was primarily based on outstanding community service.

Elizabeth was chosen to receive this scholarship award in both 2008 and 2009. The award luncheon was held at the Hyatt Regency’s Crystal Ballroom in Chicago.

Elizabeth is currently a third-year law student at The John Marshall School of Law in Chicago. She is currently interning at the Will County State’s Attorney’s office in Joliet.

She is the daughter of Richard and Darlene Johnson and the granddaughter of Harry and Betty Leasure of Morris; and the granddaughter of Margaret Johnson and the late Ray Johnson of Seneca.

Hayworth selected as OSL at Elmhurst College

Molley Hayworth of Morris has been selected as a 2009 Orientation Student Leader (OSL) at Elmhurst College.

OSLs are responsible for welcoming and leading small groups of first-year students in all activities and programs scheduled during Big Questions: What will you stand for?, which is the college’s orientation program. OSLs are selected through a competitive process that includes an application and several interviews. In addition to the selection process, OSLs participate in an intensive training program that advises them on handling tough questions, facilitating conversation, working with family members, appreciating interculturalism, building community, and more.

Hayworth, a sophomore, is a graduate of Morris Community High School in Morris. She is the daughter of Michael and Mary Hayworth of Morris.

Sebby named to dean’s list at Palmer College

Jon Sebby of Coal City, a current seventh trimester student in the Doctor of Chiropractic program at Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa, has been named to the dean’s list for the 6th trimester.

To be eligible for the Dean’s list, a student must achieve a minimum grade point average of 3.50 in all studies for the respective term.

The highest possible GPA is 4.00.
