Della Mae Hamm

Mrs. Della Mae (Eades) Hamm, 79, of Morris, passed peacefully late Tuesday evening, Oct. 27, 2009, at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Paula Hamm of Morris.


Born July 1, 1930, in Palmyra, Ill., Della was the daughter of Herbert and Eva Mae (Waters) Eades. She married Orville Hamm on March 1, 1947, in Waverly, Ill.


Survivors include her mother, Eva Eades of Carlinville, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Carline Eades of Carlinville, Ill.; sisters-in-law, Veda Delay of Pekin, Ill., and Elzora Lomelino of Roodhouse, Ill.; one son, Dave (Paula) Hamm of Morris; seven daughters, Reba (Doug) Porterfield, Debbie Hamm, both of Custer Park, Ill., Judy (Ed) McPherson, Patty Riley, both of Colorado Springs, Colo., Dianna (Larry) McLaren of Milwaukee, Wis., Colleen Delaney of Frankfort, Ill., Brenda (Jim) McMorris of Slidell, La.; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; also numerous nieces, nephews and extended families.


She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Orville; father, Herbert; one brother, Leroy; and a granddaughter, Brigette (McPherson) Ragan.


Della was born and raised in Macoupin County. She moved with her family to Wilmington in 1960, residing in the area until Orville’s retirement. They then moved to Colorado Springs, where Della and Orville resided for 17 years until his death in April 2009. Della decided to move back home, residing in the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Dave & Paula.

Della was a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, extended family and friends. She always had a hot meal, spare bed and comfort for anyone who came to visit.

Visitation and memorial services will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Reeve’s Funeral Home, 219 N Joliet St., Wilmington.

Funeral services will be Monday, Nov. 2, 2009. Visitation will be from from 9 a.m. until services at 10 a.m.

Della will be laid to rest at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, along with the ashes of her late husband, a World War II veteran, surrounding her.

Full military services, as well as religious interment, will be held for Della and Orville.

Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the Joliet Area Hospice in memory of Della and Orville.
