Marines’ mission is to send message of hope
Toy donations needed for the ‘09 holiday season
The U.S. Marine Corps Reserves has established drop off locations at various locations around Channahon and Minooka as they gear up to collect new toys for needy children for the 2009 holidays.
Donations of toys need to be new and unwrapped. In order to get the right toy to the right child, the toys need to be seen. The toughest age group to fill is teenagers, particularly girls in the 13 to 15 age group.
Stuffed animals are not accepted for this program due to health and safety issues.
The goal, according to the Marines, is to deliver a message of hope which will build self-esteem and in turn motivate children to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic citizens and community leaders. A shiny new toy is a means of accomplishing this goal.
Local drop off locations for Channahon are the Harris Bank and Coldwell Banker-Honig Bell, all on Eames St. (U.S. 6), the Channahon Fire Station, and Loders Croklaan. Minooka drop off locations are the Minooka Fire Station, Harris Bank, and Dimensions Barbers and Salon.
Look for large collection boxes that read “United States Marine Corps Reserve”. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 15.
Also accepted are monetary donations which allow the Marines to buy toys and gift certificates. Checks may be made out to the U.S.M.C.R. Toys for Tots Foundation and mailed to Toys for Tots Foundation, U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Center, Company E, 4th Reconnaissance Bn, 2711 McDonaugh St., Joliet, Ill., 60436.
Families in need may register at the George Werden Buck Boys and Girls Club, 226 E. Clinton St., Joliet, or call 815-723-3434.
