Halvorson’s vote not consistent with claims

Saturday night our Congresswoman, Debbie Halvorson, voted for HR3962, the House Federal Government takeover of the Health Care Industry, which unfortunately passed 220-215.  However she also voted Saturday night against the Sutpak Amendment to HR3962 that prohibited Federal Government subsidies of any insurance plans. Fortunately this did pass 240-194.

She voted against the Stupak Amendment even though she had said in her “tele-town hall” meeting that I listened to in August that the House Health Care Bill would not provide for any funding of abortions. So we can now see from this that, in spite of what she had said or implied in her “tele-town hall” meeting, she really did want abortion funding in the Health Care Bill.

Also Ms. Halvorson, was quoted in the Friday newspaper that she had 60 public forums in the 11th Congressional District since January.

I don’t know if that is true or not, but one thing I do know is that I have not been able to ever talk with her about my concerns with the House Health Care Bills.

She certainly did not have any public, in-person town hall meetings about health care legislation even though many of us wanted one and expressed a desire to have one.  I did attend one of her two “tele-town hall” meetings by phone, but couldn’t even get my questions through to ask her.

Although I was never able to talk with her, I was able to talk with her health care legislative assistant in Washington, but he was unresponsive to my concerns.

Ms. Halvorson said in the “tele-town hall” that with the House health care legislation, we could keep the health care coverage that we have, but that is not true for those of us who are part of nonprofit, health care sharing ministries like Samaritan Ministries which my wife, myself, and four others in our church participate in.

We are reimbursed by other members of Samaritan Ministries (www.samaritanministries.org) when we have a health care need of over $300, and the cost of that for a married couple is only around $250 per month which is sent to another family that has a need that month.
