As area residents shift through their daily mail this week, parents and guardians of students from Morris Elementary School District 54 should keep their eye out for the district’s first newsletter in many years.

The district is mailing out its Fall 2009 newsletter, which includes a letter from Superintendent Teri Shaw, School Board President Jim Huddleston, an explanation of the district’s budget and an article on Librarian Marnie Garcia’s upgrades to the Shabbona library.

“The Board of Education has put a strong emphasis on its goal to continuously communicate with all of the district’s stakeholders and this newsletter is a major component of that,” Shaw said.

For this year, the newsletter is expected to come out twice with a fall and spring edition.

The district is considering a more detailed newsletter in the future at the start of the school year to get the community excited for the upcoming year.

The Fall 2009 newsletter also features photos of its students in action, a look at the district’s ISAT results and a detailed look at its fiscal year goals.

“The key to a strong school district is communication, not only with its staff and students, but with parents, guardians and the community,” Shaw said.

“We all work together to educate and raise exceptional children, therefore we need to offer insight on district happenings as much as possible. This newsletter allows us one more outlet to do this.”

The newsletter will also be available at the District 54 office, 54 White Oak Drive in Morris, or online at dist54.mornet.org.
