DWIGHT, Ill. – Mr. Robert H. Watters, 81, of rural Dwight, Ill., passed away at his residence at 5:50 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, 2009.

Funeral services will be at Dwight United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 16. The Rev. William Leppin and the Rev. Dan Woodward will officiate. The service will be followed by burial at Oaklawn Cemetery in Dwight.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, at Hager Memorial Home, Dwight.

Mr. Watters was born to Claytus "Clay" and Mildred "Mid" (Finley) Watters on Feb. 28, 1928, in rural Cabery, Ill.

He was educated in Dwight schools, was a member of the Merchant Marines, a self-employed farmer, a member of the American Legion Post #486, Mooseheart of Pontiac, and the Cesna 170 Club.

He was an avid race fan and accomplished stock car driver, well known throughout the Eastern United States. He was in the hall of fame for The Mazon Speed Bowl and the Grundy County Speedway. He also loved watching his son and grandsons race.

He was the inventor, designer and creator of the first soybean walker and a life long private pilot. He resided at Tail Dragger Lane.

He is survived by his dearest, life-long friend, especially during his last days, Arla Poppe of Bloomington; his daughter, Linda (Tom) Morrisey of Orlando, Fla.; a son, Bob (Connie) Watters of Dwight; a sister, Shari (Harold) Bull of Pontiac, Ill.; a brother, Jim (Peg) Watters of Dwight, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Doris Watters of Litchfield, Ill.; six grandchildren, Kori (Dennis) Dunlap, Kevin Watters, Emie Watters, Cody Watters, Clay Watters, and Carly Watters-Morrisey; three great grandchildren, Kailey Hahn, Cole Hahn, and Owen Dunlap; aunts Mary Hoffman and Thelma Finley; and several neices and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; his parents; and a brother, Gene Watters.
