Illinois native and former resident Mr. Donald A. Lindahl, 73, died Nov. 4, 2009, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, S.C., of complications following strokes.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, at the First Presbyterian Church, 602 West Greene St., Champaign, Ill.

Mr. Lindahl was born July 30, 1936, in Morris, Ill., to Arthur L. Lindahl and Dorothy A. (Crane) Lindahl.

He served in the United State Air Force, flying missions out of Alaska, and teaching at Chanute AFB in Rantoul.

An alumnus of the University of Illinois, he worked in agriculture until his retirement as a plant breeder and geneticist for Pioneer Seed and the United States Department of Agriculture.

Mr. Lindahl left Illinois in 1984, when work settled him briefly in Kaneohe, Hawaii, then Tucson, Ariz. Mr. Lindahl retired to Bastrop, Texas, then moved on to Williamston, S.C.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Harrietta L. Lindahl; three daughters, Leigh, Susan, and Chris; four step-children, Joe, Sean, Colleen, and Trista; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
