Mr. Ronald C. "Ron" Greiff, 53, of rural Marseilles, passed away peacefully Friday evening, Nov. 13, 2009, at the Morris Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. His loving family was by his side.

Born Oct. 2, 1956, in Morris, he was the son of Robert C. and Mary Jane (Battles) Greiff Sr. He received his education in Coal City schools, and he graduated from Coal City High School with the Class of 1974.

He served his country with the U.S. Marines.

Ron married Harriet Osborne on Nov. 20, 1983, at the First United Methodist Church in Wilmington.

He was employed with D&D Industries in Coal City and  DuPont Chemical in Seneca. He prepared taxes for H&R Block in Morris. For more than 20 years, he was an operating engineer with Union Local 150 in Joliet.

His interests included hunting, his workshop, cattle and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving wife of 26 years, Harriet, of Marseilles; two daughters, Sarah (Chuck Maierhofer) Greiff, of Marseilles; and Crystal Greiff of DeKalb, Ill.; three sons, Justin Greiff of Mazon, Brian (Bonnie) Osborne of Houston, Texas, and Adam Michael Greiff of Seneca; five grandchildren, Gavin and Xavier Greiff, Alyssa and Collin Osborne and Charley Maierhofer; his parents, Robert and Mary Jane Greiff, Sr., of Mazon; one sister, Ruth Greiff of Morris; one brother, Robert (Dawn) Greiff, Jr., of Coal City; two nieces, Tamara and Stephanie Greiff; one nephew, Joshua Greiff; two best friends, David Hendershott of Seneca and Mike Davis of Mazon; and his little dog, Kia.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at U.C. Davis & Sons Funeral Home Ltd., 301 W. Washington St., Morris.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at the funeral home with Rev. Winn Ally officiating.

Interment will follow at the Mazon Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Morris Color Guard.
