Childers faces felony charge for attacking man

A battery charge against Ronald Childers, 28, Crest Hill, was upgraded to a felony in circuit court Tuesday.

Childers was charged with aggravated battery for knocking James Evans down and kicking him in the head, causing great bodily harm on Oct. 24.

On Oct. 26, Childers was charged with misdemeanor battery in circuit court with bond set at $100.

Bond was continued at $100. Childers is to appear in court Jan. 7.

About 2 a.m. on Oct. 24, deputies went to the parking lot by the Southside Bar and Grill, where it was reported Childers had attacked Evans for no apparent reason.

Evans was taken to Morris Hospital by Kurtz Ambulance.
