Mrs. Helen M. Johnson, 82, of Morris, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, Nov. 17, 2009, at Morris Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center.

Born Oct. 18, 1927, in Bellefontaine, Mo., she was the daughter of Roy E. and Lydia (Rovenmiller) McDaniel. She graduated with the class of 1945 from Centertown High School in Centertown, Mo.

Helen married Richard M. Johnson on Oct. 26, 1945, in Jefferson City, Mo. She and her husband moved to Morris in 1946 to make their home.

Helen was employed as a cook and waitress at Halloran's Soda Shoppe. She was a waitress at the Seven Gables Restaurant, Kate Lee's and Romines Truck Stop. She was then employed with the Book & Gift Shop in downtown Morris for several years.

Helen and her family traveled through the years. She was an active league bowler at Echo Lanes in Morris, including the Tuesday Night Ladies Minor, the Wednesday Afternoon League and the Friday and Saturday Night Leagues, which she participated in with her husband. She also enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, collecting stamps and playing cards with her neighbors and family.

Helen was a member of the First Baptist Church in Morris. She was also a member of the Anna Grey and Patricia Coates Circles, Air Force Mother's Club No. 16 in Joliet, American Legion Women's Auxiliary and the Royal Neighbors of America.

Survivors include one son, Charles L. "Chuck" Johnson of Eldon, Mo.; one daughter, Vivi L. Sargent of Morris; three grandchildren, Tracey (Glenn) Backes of Eldon, Mo., Wendy (Adam) Walker of Centerville, Mo. and Thomas E. Sargent of Morris; seven great-grandchildren, Katlyn, Cierra, Bryce, Jayden, Deaken, Gauge and Deanna, all of Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on April 8, 2007; one sister, Mary H. "Alyne" Powers; and one brother, Roy James "R.J." McDaniel.

Per her request, there will be no visitation or funeral services.

Cremation rites will be accorded. Private family graveside services will follow at a later date in Centertown Cemetery in Centertown, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be directed to the family.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to U.C. Davis & Sons Funeral Home Ltd., 301 W. Washington St., Morris.
