John A. Barkley
Mr. John A. "Jack" Barkley, 84, of Morris, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 18, 2009, at the Morris Hospital following a lingering illness.
Born March 13, 1925, in Morris, John was the son of Clarence and Ethel (Perry) Barkley. He received his education in Morris schools.
John proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II in the Pacific Theater of Operations.
Jack married Janet C. Rasmussen on Aug. 22, 1952, in Morris. He was employed with the Federal Paper Board Company in Morris for more than 30 years. He retired when the Paper Mill closed.
He treasured the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Mazon Lodge 826 A.F. & A.M.
Survivors include one son, Brian (Kirsten) Barkley of Chicago; five grandchildren, Casandra, Abigail, Jordan, Dane and Danica; two brothers, Donald Barkley of Morris and Jerry (Cathy) Butz of Diamond; two brother-in-laws, William (Joan) Rasmussen of Morris and Arnold Fairbanks of San Antonio, Texas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on March 23, 2002; one son, Jonathan G. Barkley on Feb. 4, 1990; two sisters; and three brothers.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at U.C. Davis & Sons Funeral Home Ltd., 301 W. Washington St., Morris.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Rev. Patrick Lohse officiating.
Interment will follow at Saratoga Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Morris Color Guard.
