The Grundy County Office of Solid Waste Management is conducting its annual gently-used toys, books and DVD/video collection.

People can donate their gently used children’s metal/plastic toys, books, puzzles, DVD’s or videos at the following locations;  Braceville Elementary School, Coal City Public Library, Grundy County Administration Building, Morris Public Library, Minooka’s Three Rivers Library and White Oak Elementary.

The collection runs until Friday, Dec. 11.

Donations will be distributed by Rotary International and local charitable organizations to needy children in time for Christmas.

Residents are asked to refrain from donating any recalled toys or toys badly damaged. In addition, new or like new stuffed animals or plush toys will be accepted.

Last year alone, through the generous acts of giving of Grundy County residents, the department collected 97 boxes of toys, books and DVDs, including two new children’s bicycles and 23 used bicycles.

By giving these toys to needy children instead of potentially throwing them out, residents are bringing joy to the children and lessening the load at the landfill.

Residents are thanked in advance for their continued generous support Grundy County.

MLB preview: Cleveland Indians

Remember when the Indians came out of nowhere and competed in their division last season? I have a feeling that will be a lot more forgettable once 2012 is a few months old.

I'm starting the blog's annual baseball series here because of the alphabet, not to pick on the Sox. Just wait until I get to the Cubs, Sox fans.
