NEWARK — Mrs. Betty Jane Johnson-Moss, 86, of Newark, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at her residence.

Born Feb. 3, 1923, in Aurora, Ill., Betty was the daughter of the late Fred and Lillian (Bird) Stephenson.

Betty was a member of the Helmar Lutheran Church, where she had taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a member of the D.W.W.C. She volunteered at the C.C.W.M., the Beecher Center in Yorkville, Ill., and the Wayside Cross Rescue Mission in Aurora.

She is survived by her three children, Judy (Dennis) Southcombe of Denver, Colo., Dottie (Bill) Akre of Seneca, Chuck (Becky) Johnson of Serena, Ill.; a foster son, Ed Reichardt of  Montgomery, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Stephenson of Tucson, Ariz., and Jean Martin of Brentwood, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alvin E. Johnson, in 1996; second husband, John C. Moss, in 2002; a sister, Mildred Randolph; and two brothers, Paul Francis and Kenneth F. Stephenson.

Visitation will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at the Helmar Lutheran Church, 11935 Lisbon Road, in rural Newark.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, at the church with Pastor Dennis Norby officiating.

Burial will take place at the Helmar Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to either the Helmar Lutheran Church or Cup of Cold Water Ministries or Wayside Cross Rescue Mission.
