On Sunday, November 22, the Morris Community High School Auditorium will be filled with the sounds of the holiday season on Sunday, Nov. 22.

The Prairie Singers, led by George McComb take the stage at 2 p.m. to perform a collection of a few light classical favorites and a variety of upbeat holiday tunes.  The Prairie Singers are a long standing local favorite with members from Grundy, LaSalle and Livingston counties.

Newark Garden Club to offer face painting

NEWARK — The Newark Garden Club will sponsor face painting from 5:45 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. at this year’s Newark Winter Festival Saturday, Dec. 5.

Bring the children to the Newark Fire Barn to have a design painted on their faces. Attendees can also fill out a free raffle ticket for a Christmas Arrangement.

The Garden Club will also donate six Poinsettias for the door prize drawing held just prior to the Lighted Fire Truck Parade at 7 p.m.

The Newark Garden Club meets monthly at 7 p.m. The meetings are held in the Ag classroom at the Newark Community High School.

Each year, members participate in great presentations, field trips and workshops. They annually sponsor the July 4th Container Plant Garden Contest, as well as participating at the Winter Festival.

The next meeting of the Garden Club will be a Fall Floral Arrangement Workshop. Each participant will be able to make an arrangement using a pumpkin as a vase.

The workshop will be held on Monday, Nov. 23. A registration fee is required.

For more information, call Irene Brown at 815 695-5384.

MLB preview: Detroit Tigers

Even with Prince Fielder, Detroit may have only the sixth-best roster in the American League in my book (maybe the seventh if the Blue Jays really put it together). In the Central, that is plenty to be the favorite.
