The Morris Theatre Guild, Inc. was formed in 1973 with it’s first-ever production being “January Thaw,” presented in the Morris Community High School Auditorium. After spending many years performing at various venues, the guild purchased the Free Methodist Church, located at 507 Liberty Street in Morris in 1987.

After extensive renovations, “Footlight Frenzy” was the first show presented in the building.Ongoing renovations, continued up to Oct. 3, 2006, when the building and most of its contents were destroyed by fire.

But members of the guild truly believed ‘the show must go on’ and continued to entertain the community while searching for a new home.

That new home became a reality when, on Nov. 3, the guild purchased a condo unit in the new CanalPort Center, located at the west end of Illinois Avenue in Morris, which is still going under extensive renovations.

Upcoming for the guild will be a children’s Christmas production, “Last Stop Till Christmas,” which will be held at the Morris Area Public Library on Dec. 19. There will be two performances the first to begin at 11:30 a.m. and the second to begin at 2:45 p.m.

Pictures with Santa will be taken between performances. The guild will also present two Grand Opening

Gala Benefits on Feb. 20 and 21, to celebrate the guild’s new home. Start times for the galas will begin at 7 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.

For more information please call the guild at (815) 942-1966 or visit morristheatreguild.com.

MLB preview: Kansas City Royals

The Royals have enough young talent to make them the team most likely to stop the Tigers from ruling the AL Central for the next few years. But they're a year, or more, away.

MLB preview: Detroit Tigers

Even with Prince Fielder, Detroit may have only the sixth-best roster in the American League in my book (maybe the seventh if the Blue Jays really put it together). In the Central, that is plenty to be the favorite.
