Holiday tunes hit airwaves on Nov. 27
Listen to holiday music, commercial-free, 24 hours a day from Thanksgiving through New Year’s with Spirit of Christmas on WCSF 88.7 FM, the student-run radio station at the University of St. Francis.
More than 200,000 listeners in the greater Will County area listen to Spirit of Christmas, now in its 17th year. Christmas classics, music from the big band era and children’s songs will be featured as well as gospel interpretations, vocal instrumental arrangements and contemporary holiday music. Local choirs and bands may also be heard.
Look for Spirit of Christmas at the Light Up the Holidays Festival and Parade in downtown Joliet at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27.
Listeners can also tune in to the station 24 hours a day, seven days a week via the Internet. To listen live online, go to the Spirit of Christmas homepage at www.stfrancis.edu/wcsf/spirit and click on the “listen live” button. Listeners may call in requests at selected times.
The following programming is planned:
• Daily (beginning Nov. 29) Cinnamon Bear will be featured at 5 p.m. (rebroadcast) and 6 p.m. The classic 1937 children’s radio drama features the quest for the silver star.
• On Sundays, Nov. 29, Dec. 6, Dec. 13, Dec. 20 – Christmas in Our Town at 7 p.m. is three hours of your requests and dedications
• Saturday, Dec. 5, will feature Christmas Across the Lands at 7 p.m.
• Monday, Dec. 7, will feature Motown Christmas at 7 p.m. and Urban Christmas at 8 p.m.
• Tuesday, Dec. 8, is A Country Christmas at 7.p.m.
• Wednesday, Dec. 9, will feature Instrumental Christmas at 7.p.m. and the Mannheim Steamroller at 8.p.m.
• Thursday, Dec. 10, will be Bing Crosby Christmas Collection at 7 p.m. and the Johnny Mathis Christmas Collection at 8 p.m.
• Friday, Dec. 11, features Pop Stars Sing Christmas at 7 p.m.; Rockin’ Christmas at 8 p.m. and Christmas Comedy at 9 p.m.
• Saturday, Dec. 12, the special program will be Christmas Across the Lands at 7 p.m.
• Sunday, Dec. 13, a Children’s Christmas will be at noon and Christmas in Our Town at 7 p.m.
• Monday, Dec. 14, listen to Polka Christmas Celebration at 7 p.m., featuring Joliet’s own Bob Doszak and the Big Band Christmas at 8 p.m.
• Tuesday, Dec. 15, will feature Christmas with American Idol Contestants at 7 p.m. and the Kenny G Holiday Collection at 8 p.m.
• Wednesday, Dec. 16, listen to the Elvis Presley Christmas Collection at 7 p.m. and the Andy Williams Christmas Special at 8 p.m.
• Thursday, Dec. 17, will feature the Bing Crosby Christmas Collection at 7 p.m. and Christmas with the Rat Pack at 8 p.m.
• Friday, Dec. 18, will feature the University of St. Francis student choir Schola Cantorum, directed by Patrick Brannon at 7 p.m., along with the Percy Faith Christmas Collection at 8 p.m.
• Saturday, Dec. 19, will feature Christmas Across the Lands at 7 p.m.
• Sunday, Dec. 20, listen to Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas at noon; Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol at 12:30 p.m.; and Christmas in Our Town at 7 p.m.
• Monday, Dec. 21, will feature Roger Whittaker Christmas Collection at 7 p.m. and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra at 8 p.m.
• Tuesday, Dec. 22, will feature Christmas with Nat “King” Cole at 7 p.m. and the Carpenters Christmas Collection at 8 p.m.
• Wednesday, Dec. 23, listen to the World’s Greatest Choirs at 7 p.m.
• Christmas Eve, Thursday, Dec. 24, will feature Top 25 Christmas Songs of 2009 at noon, followed by a countdown of your Christmas favorites of 2009; Snoopy vs. the Red Barron at 5:30 p.m.; the exciting conclusion of Cinnamon Bear at 6 p.m.; and a Christmas Eve with Bing Crosby and Friends at 7 p.m.
