Rezin breaks Georgetown record for most digs in a season
The record stood for almost 20 years.
That is, until Morris grad Victoria Rezin arrived at Georgetown University. In the last volleyball match of the year for Georgetown, Rezin notched dig No. 473, which set a record for digs in a single season. Rezin finished the year with 475 digs.
"It feels awesome to get the season record," said Rezin. "I was told three games before I set the record that I was getting close. My coaches told me in the office one day. Next year, I want to get more than 475 digs. I just want to improve every year. We want to get more wins. It feels good to be on the record board twice. The record was pretty old. I think that defense is extremely important to the game of volleyball. It makes the game flow well and keeps the other team from scoring."
Rezin set the record close to home, in a 3-1 win over DePaul University in Chicago. Rezin finished the contest with 19 digs and four assists. The former record, 472, was set by Simone Kollman in 1990. Besides her digs, Rezin also had 64 assists and 38 service aces this season. Georgetown finished the year with a 14-16 overall record.
