AN ALABAMA driver was charged with DUI on Illinois 47, south of Mazon, about 11:45 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23.

Thomas Shuhart, 39, Helena, Ala., was also ticketed for going 90 in a 55 mph zone, improper lane usage and driving with a defective windshield. He was taken to the county jail in lieu of $300 cash bond.

Deputy Michael James reported he was southbound on Illinois 47, near Gardner Road, when he met a northbound Chevrolet truck traveling at a high speed.

Radar indicated the truck was going 90 mph, so the deputy turned around and saw Shuhart go into the left turn lane at Gardner Road. He then continued north on Illinois 47.

Near Grinter Road, he reported Shuhart went on to the shoulder and almost lost control of the truck before stopping.

Deputy James reported Shuhart appeared intoxicated and could not find his license or registration. When he got out of the truck, Shuhart had to lean on it to keep from falling.

Shuhart failed the field sobriety tests and was charged with DUI.

At the county jail, he registered .169 on the Breathalyzer test, (.08 is legal intoxication).

Remember when the Indians came out of nowhere and competed in their division last season? I have a feeling that will be a lot more forgettable once 2012 is a few months old.
