USF Schola, Chorale to present holiday concert

Morris student among members in Concert Chorale to perform

JOLIET, Ill.—The University of St. Francis Department of Music and Performing Arts will present the USF Schola Cantorum and Concert Chorale in a concert on Friday, Dec. 11 and Saturday, Dec. 12.

The concert called, “Make We Joy: Lessons and Carols for Christmas,” will be at 7:30 p.m. in St. Joseph Chapel, located on the third floor of the university’s Motherhouse, 520 Plainfield Road.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for students, seniors and university alumni.

The concert will feature a variety of carols and music for Christmas, including works by Palestrina, Mendelssohn, Rutter, Tavener, and others. The Concert Chorale will pre-sent Pergolesi’s “Magnificat” accompanied by a chamber orchestra. 

The Schola Cantorum is directed by USF Professor of Music Patrick Brannon and the University of St. Francis Concert Chorale is directed by Willard Thomen.

Soloists for the “Magnificat” include Miranda Castillo, of Joliet; Jackie Larry, of Chicago; Kurt Cremer, of Shorewood; and Sean Smith, of Winnebago. Other soloists include Phillipa Kerr, Elyse Lorenz, Kevin Healy, Maura Bayer, and Veronica and Claire Halbur, all of Joliet; Terry Morrow, of Plainfield; and Candyce Jupter, of Chicago.

Other members of the USF Schola Cantorum include Linda Shea, of Plainfield; Diandra Cecchetti, of Bolingbrook; Nick Cerovac and Jeff  Ray, both of Shorewood; John McGreal, of Addison; and Meghan Nee, of Roselle. The Schola Cantorum will be accompanied by Mary Beth Diab.

In addition to community members in the Concert Chorale, USF student singers include Linnea Wilke, of Joliet; Hillary Graf, of Plainfield; Mairead Cory, of Lake of the Hills; and Elizabeth Fallon, of Morris. The ensemble is accompanied by Richard Deal.
