GRUNDY COUNTY deputies charged a Gardner man with burglarizing a garage about 5:50 p.m. Sunday.

Brian Meredith, 47, 600 East St., Gardner, was also charged with assault. Bond was set at $2,000 cash when he appeared in circuit court Monday. Public Defender J. D. Flood was appointed to represent him.

Deputy Trent Olson reported he was called to 207 W. Dwight St., Gardner, about 5:50 p.m. where it was reported Alan Wade had confronted a man in the garage.

Wade told the deputy he found the man trying to hide behind the car in the garage. He said the man had a beer in his hand and several bottles of beer in his pockets.

When he attempted to hold the man, Wade said the man swung his fist at him, but he was able to avoid the blow.

Once outside the garage, the man was able get away.

Deputy Olson reported that, based on the description provided, deputies thought the suspect lived in an apartment a 600 East St., Gardner.

Deputies checked several apartments before finding Meredith, who matched the description. Wade made a positive identification and Meredith was taken to the county jail.

Meredith was charged with entering the garage to steal beer.
