A TINLEY Park man was arrested for possession of crack cocaine about 2:10 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4 on Interstate 55.

Edward Salazar, 35, Tinley Park, was taken to the county jail for a court appearance.

Deputy Paul Clampitt reported he was on Interstate 55 when he saw a northbound Ford truck with no front license plate. When the truck went past, it had a rear license plate. A computer check, however, showed the registration was suspended.

After stopping the truck, Deputy Clampitt reported Salazar, the driver, was very nervous and gave conflicting information about where he had been.

When Salazar got out of the truck, the deputy reported he saw pieces of copper mesh and small white chunks of material on the middle seat. He also reported Salazar had a large piece of copper mesh in his pocket. Copper mesh is commonly used is smoking crack.

Deputy Clampitt said he collected the white material and it field tested positive for cocaine.

MLB preview: Kansas City Royals

The Royals have enough young talent to make them the team most likely to stop the Tigers from ruling the AL Central for the next few years. But they're a year, or more, away.

MLB preview: Detroit Tigers

Even with Prince Fielder, Detroit may have only the sixth-best roster in the American League in my book (maybe the seventh if the Blue Jays really put it together). In the Central, that is plenty to be the favorite.
