A WOMAN who struck a mailbox in Coal City about 12:30 a.m. Sunday was charged with DUI at Reed and Old Mazon roads.

Cynthia Shelly, 42, Godley, was also ticketed for improper lane usage. She posted $100 and her driver's license as bond. She was given a March 8 court date.

Deputy Kenneth Unland reported he received information from a witness who said the driver of a GMC van was weaving on Illinois 113 in Coal City and had struck a mailbox near Fourth Street.

The deputy reported the witnesses followed the driver south on Berta Road and west on Reed Road. He located the vehicle being driven west on Reed Road, near Old Mazon Road. He reported the driver went across the eastbound lane on to the shoulder before he stopped her.

Deputy Unland said Shelly appeared intoxicated and admitted she was lost. The passenger side rear view mirror on the van had been damaged.

Shelly failed the field sobriety tests and was charged with DUI. At the jail, she registered .141 on the Breathalyzer test.

MLB preview: Kansas City Royals

The Royals have enough young talent to make them the team most likely to stop the Tigers from ruling the AL Central for the next few years. But they're a year, or more, away.

MLB preview: Detroit Tigers

Even with Prince Fielder, Detroit may have only the sixth-best roster in the American League in my book (maybe the seventh if the Blue Jays really put it together). In the Central, that is plenty to be the favorite.
