Area’s representative should truly represent the people of the area
To the Editor:
On Friday the 13th of this month, your paper carried an interview with a Travis Worl, then the campaign manager for Congresswoman Debbie Halvorson. Worl discounted the recent opinion poll results that give Adam Kinzinger, Halvorson’s Republican opponent, an 11-point lead in the race for the seat at stake in the Nov. 2 election.
All it really takes is money, he commented.
“It comes down to having the money to get (your message) out,” he said, “If you don’t have the money to get your message out there, it makes it really hard to win an election.”
Worl later informed the reporter his boss has all the money necessary to crush Kinzinger: $1.4 million compared to $480,000.
From what he was saying, it appeared to be Democrat politics as usual. Rather than earn the respect of the voters by voting for the interests of the district, Congresswoman Halvorson appears content to inundate the voters with campaign literature, to try to purchase her way to re-election.
The fact of the matter is this: the voters of the 11th Congressional District are tired of Congresswomen Halvorson. The disparity in the polls reflects that very clearly — it is voter discontent with a congresswoman who is completely out of touch with her district.
What is even more curious is what her campaign manager went on to say.
“No. 1 is the need to focus on job creation... Next is the need to stop spending. Third is the need to provide accessible and accountable leadership for the constituents in the district,” he said.
All of this is well and good, but it is also exactly opposite of how Congresswoman Halvorson has voted and acted by supporting the stimulus bill, health care “reform,” “Cap-and-Trade,” and Stimulus II.
It is time to again elect someone who represents our district. That isn’t Deb Halvorson. She has had two years to make a case with Democrats firmly in control of the government. Instead, all she has done is to show repeatedly that she is clearly out of touch with the needs of the residents of the 11th Congressional District.
