Livingston coroner Burke seeking re-election
PONTIAC, Ill. (MCT) — Livingston County Coroner Michael P. Burke announced Wednesday he intends to run for re-election next year.
Burke, a Republican, was named deputy coroner in 1988, was appointed coroner in 1991 to succeed the late Roger Duffy of Fairbury and has been re-elected since.
"Since 1991 ... the members of this office have always strived to make sure every family we serve is treated as we would want our families treated if they were faced with a similar situation," Burke said in a prepared statement. "I have always tried to be respectful of feelings while maintaining and upholding the laws of the state of Illinois."
The county native has lived in Cullom and Pontiac. He graduated from Pontiac Township High School, Bloomington School of Practical Nursing and Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago and attended Loop College in Chicago.
He also has been employed for more than 28 years as a funeral director and embalmer in the county.
Among efforts in his office is continuing the work of collecting, consolidating and digitally storing all of the office's known records since 1870.
He is the divorced father of one daughter.
