ROMEOVILLE — Depression is a major public health issue that affects millions of Americans every year.

According to the U.S Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, antidepressants are the most commonly prescribed medication in the United States; however, not all patients prescribed antidepressant medications achieve satisfactory improvement. The Institute for Personal Development (IPD) is excited to offer Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation therapy in the Romeoville IPD location starting in January 2012. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy is a ground-breaking, simple, out-patient, drug-free option for those suffering from major depression.

“TMS therapy is an exciting breakthrough for patients who have either not obtained adequate benefits from traditional antidepressant medications or cannot or choose not to tolerate the side-effects of antidepressant medications.” said Dr. Ronald J. Wuest, M.D., President and Medical Director of the Institute for Personal Development. “TMS offers these patients new hope that relief from major depression is possible.”

TMS therapy is FDA-approved and proven effective for patients who have not responded to treatment with anti-depressant medications. TMS therapy is done on an outpatient basis and is prescribed and supervised by a psychiatrist.

During the treatment, the patient is awake and seated in a comfortable chair, similar to a dentist’s chair. A small, curved device rests lightly on the patient’s head delivering rapid, focused magnetic stimulation similar to those used in MRI machines. TMS therapy utilizes a strong, targeted magnetic pulse to stimulate the prefrontal cortex, the area of the brain associated with mood regulation.

Reader Poll

In light of the recent setbacks with the pool project, how should the city of Morris proceed?

Stay on course! The proposed project will be an asset to the city.
It's time to scale back. The costs are getting out of hand.
It's a sign. The pool should be put in a different spot.
They shouldn't have approved this project in the first place.
Who cares? I can't swim anyway.
