Gary L. Peavler
ROCKDALE, Ill. — Mr. Gary L. Peavler, 70, of Rockdale, Ill., and formerly Channahon, passed away Thursday evening, Jan. 19, 2012, at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Ill.
Born Sept. 19, 1941 in Xenia, Ill., Gary was a son of Neva E. Peavler (Logan) of Wilmington and the late Paul V. Peavler. He was raised in Wilmington and graduated from Wilmington High School.
Gary was employed by Amoco Chemical Company, where he dedicated 34 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Wilmington Moose Lodge, Illinois Bar and Liquor Retailers Association and a life member of Bradley-Bourbonnais Sportsman’s Club.
Gary greatly enjoyed playing golf and fishing, and will be remembered as a devoted Chicago Cubs fan.
Survivors include four children, John Edward Peavler of Rockford, Annette Totten of Sterling, Ill., Mark V. (Atiorn) Peavler of Plainfield, Ill., and Jacky (Melissa) Peavler of Shelbyville, Ill.; five grandchildren, Jennifer Peavler, Brittany Flohr, Jordan Totten, Becca Totten and Ryne Peavler; his mother, Neva Peavler of Wilmington, Ill.; one brother, Robert (Renee) Peavler of Diamond; two sisters, Paula (Randy) Price of Wilmington and Jenny (Neal) Nelson of Coal City; and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his longtime companion, Connie Rice of Crest Hill, Ill.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Paul V. Peavler; one son, Gary Douglas Peavler; and one brother, John Roger Peavler, in infancy.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at Freitag-Reeves & Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 East Kahler Road, in Wilmington.
Funeral Services will follow at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at the funeral home. Rev. Mi-Sook Yoo from the First United Methodist Church in Wilmington will officiate.
Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Wilmington.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be Randy Price, Neal Nelson, Rob Peavler, Steve Friddle, Jeff Friddle, Mark Kahler, Jerry Warren, Larry Logan and Phil Reyes.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Gary’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
