BRIEFS: Art council plans open mic night
MINOOKA — The Three Rivers Arts Council is hosting its first ever Open Mic Night on Sunday, Jan. 29.
Any performers, amateur or professional, including musicians, speakers, comedians or poets, looking to get out there are welcome. The event will be held from 6-9 p.m. at TRAC’s Firehouse Arts Center, located in the old Minooka firehouse at 413 Mondamin Street.
This event is open to the public free of charge, but there will be opportunities for donations to help the non-profit TRAC produce more such events.
On Feb. 1, TRAC will show the Buster Keaton classic “Sherlock Jr.,” accompanied by pianist Dave Drazin. It is part of TRAC’s Firehouse Cinema series that features lesser seen but amazing and influential films the first Wednesday of each month. This event starts at 7 p.m. at TRAC’s Firehouse Arts Center.

Fossil Ridge to hold blood drive
BRAIDWOOD — Fossil Ridge Public Library, located at 386 W. Kennedy Rd., in Braidwood, will sponsor a community blood drive on Saturday, Feb. 4 from 8 a.m. to noon.
Donors will receive an exclusive T-shirt as a way of saying “thank you” for your life-saving blood donation.
Donating blood takes less than an hour. Donors should be in good health, free of flu and cold symptoms, at least 17 years of age (16 with a signed Heartland parental permission form), weigh at least 110 pounds and haven’t donated blood within the last eight weeks. Participants who have traveled outside the U.S. in the last 12 months, take medications, or have questions should call Heartland Blood Centers at (800) 7TO-GIVE to verify their eligibility. All blood types are needed. Photo ID will be required.

Park district offers Valentine’s dinner
CHANNAHON — The Channahon Park District is offering an elegant dinner for you and your Valentine close to home at Heritage Bluffs’ Grille Room on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 6-8 p.m.
The evening includes a fabulous dinner, music, roses, a photographer and cash bar. Childcare is also available. Dinner per couple is only $70 without childcare ($80 for nonresidents) or $80 with childcare ($90 for nonresidents). Children are served dinner in the childcare room.
Reservations are required, the deadline to reserve is Feb. 1. Reservations can be made at the district’s website www.channahonpark.org. Reservations can also be done in person, by mail or by fax (815-467-5677) at Arrowhead Community Center (24856 West Eames Street, Channahon).
