Outdoors fishing, hunting, boat and RV expo returns to Sandwich
What to do, what to do? The calendar pages from mid-January until the end of winter can be hard for an outdoors enthusiast. Even die-hard predator hunters and ice fisherman have days where it’s just too cold to go out. Leaving a warm bed in the dark during these long winter months can be hard.
I too long for the sun to stay up just a bit longer and the mercury to rise just a bit higher. Thoughts of gobblers and long hours on a lake can fill many of our daydreams. There are still ways to fill our ravenous appetite for all things outdoors though. Now is a perfect time to attend an outdoors show.
There are literally thousands of outdoor shows all across the country during the winter months. Some of them are gargantuan events held in the largest cities and draw crowds that rival major sporting events. Other shows are small in nature and have only several dozen vendors. They all have one thing in common though-opportunities for sportsmen to see the newest gear, book amazing trips, and learn from some of the best pros around.
I have not only attended lots of these events, I have also worked them for numerous vendors. I’ve spent time in a booth for Remington Arms Company, Legacy Arms, Strike King Lure Co., Bagley Baits, Zebco-Quantum, Sufix fishing line, World Famous Clothing, Plano, and numerous others. I have traveled across the country working shows in Cabela’s, Bass Pro Shops, Gander Mountain and countless other stores. I can honestly say that all of these shows, no matter the location, can offer outdoors lovers a chance to not only buy great gear, but to also enhance their knowledge to help in the pursuit of the game they love.
Some of the best dog training advice I have ever gotten was by attending a seminar at one of these shows while on a lunch break. I also learned a lot about using game calls and how to try different fishing tactics. The amount of information you can take home is amazing.
I know lots of us don’t have the time or even the financial resources to travel great distances to attend sports shows. You are in luck. We have got a relatively new show just a few miles north of us in Sandwich.
Timber Creek Inn and Suites and Convention Center is holding its Second Annual “The Great Outdoors” Fishing, Hunting, Boat and RV Expo the first weekend in Feb. The exact dates are the 3rd, 4th, and 5th.
Show hours are from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday. Look at that! You can even make it home in time on Sunday to catch the big game.
Admission for the show is five dollars for adults. Kids are free, and everyone is free on Sunday if they bring a pet food donation to the admissions booth. On another positive note, parking is free, as well.
This particular sports show has plenty of things to do besides browse the aisles. They are going to have scheduled seminars throughout the entire weekend. There will be pros talking about bass fishing and they will demonstrate different techniques in a 4,000 gallon tank.
There will be casting contests, face painting, craft tables for kids, and numerous opportunities to win some great prizes and trips. You will also have the opportunity to meet local pros and pick their brains to help you spend more quality time in the outdoors.
There will also be a Boone and Crockett scorer there. Guys, if you have ever wanted to know exactly how that big trophy would compare to your buddies, this would be the place to do it. Both of you bring those deer racks in and see who does have bragging rights.
The show is located at the Timber Creek Inn and Suites and Convention center at 3300 Drew Avenue in Sandwich. If you want to see more information you can find the expo's Facebook page, just search for Timber Creek Inn and Suites and Convention Center.
Take some time with the family and friends that first weekend in February to check out the show. The vendors will appreciate you coming out to see them and I think you will enjoy what they have to show you. Take some time during these winter months to dream about what’s to come and keep the outdoor passion alive and well.
