Area residents are being alerted by the Grundy County State's Attorney's Office of a potential bank card scam.

This potential scam, according to Grundy County State's Attorney John Bates, begins when cellular phone users receive a text message regarding the deactivation of a bank ATM or debit card.

People are contacted via cell phone or text, and a message indicated that their bank card has been temporarily deactivated, Bates said. The recipient is told to contact the number left in the message.

In the instances reported, the individuals contacted by the alleged banks did not have an account with that bank and did not carry ATM or debit cards for the bank in question.

Bates urges citizens to contact only their local bank representative if they receive such a message to determine if it is legitimate.

"Never give personal bank information to someone that you are unfamiliar with," Bates said.

Do you support Morris' decision to allow video gambling in city establishments?

Yes. It's an opportunity to raise needed funds.
No. This sort of activity should be kept out of the community.
I'm undecided on this issue.
