DuPage man charged with faking own kidnapping
(MCT) — A Willowbrook area man has been charged with faking his own kidnapping.
And 19-year-old Dorian Ford only asked family members for $1,000 for his safe return, authorities said.
About 7 p.m. Tuesday, the DuPage County sheriff's office received a report of the alleged kidnapping. Family members received a call advising them that Ford had been kidnapped and would be held until the paid the relatively modest sum, authorities said.
Police began a search and found Ford, of the 10s600 block of Ivy Lane in unincorporated Willowbrook, although they didn't say where. He told them he had been kidnapped and hit over the head. Subsequent investigation and interviews revealed that Ford had made the call and ransom demand himself.
Ford was charged with disorderly conduct-filing a false crime report. He is scheduled to appear in bond court later this afternoon.
