School ‘rounding up’ kindergartners

CHANNAHON — Channahon School District 17 is trying to “round-up” all prospective kindergartners for the 2012-2013 school year. If your child will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2012, he/she is eligible to attend kindergarten next year.

Additionally, the school district is rounding up first graders for the 2012-2013 school year who are not presently attending kindergarten in the school district. Round-up will be Thursday, Feb. 23, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. in the Board Room at Pioneer Path School, 24920 S. Sage St., Channahon.

Registration packets will be distributed through local preschools or may be picked up at N.B. Galloway School, 24805 Roberts Road, on school days between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.  Please bring your completed packet and school fees to either “round-up” session. To register their student, a parent must provide the following:

1) A certified copy of your child’s birth certificate issued by the county of birth or, if you have an Illinois birth certificate, it needs to have the state of Illinois 112 number displayed.

2) A copy of pre-school screening results if you have them.

3) A copy of a custody agreement if applicable.

4) Proof of residency: Three of the following documents will be accepted. The only exceptions will be those families declared homeless.

Category I (must supply one):

1) Ownership Title

2) Closing Papers

3) Current Tax Bill

4) Current Rental/Lease Agreement showing 5-digit street address, dates beginning/ending and lessee/lessor signatures. This is also a yearly requirement and must be updated each year.

Category II (must supply two):

1) Previous months (GAS, ELECTRIC, WATER)

2) Drivers License with correct address

3) Voter Registration Card with correct address

Children entering kindergarten must have completed a physical with up-to-date immunization records.
within one year prior to school entry. Physicals must be written on the approved medical form which is included in the registration packet.

PLEASE NOTE: Your child will not be registered without proper proof of residency and original birth certificate.
