Slaying suspect arrested, daughter found safe
(MCT) — Chicago police this morning arrested a murder suspect wanted in Racine, Wis., and found with him his 2-year-old daughter for whom an Amber Alert had been issued.
Iryin Vaughn, 25, was taken into custody about 5:30 a.m. at a relative's house at 98th Street and South Yates Boulevard, said Police News Affair Officer Robert Perez. The girl was not harmed, he said.
Vaughn was being sought in connection with the slaying of a 27-year-old woman, the child's mother, who was found dead in an upper unit of a Racine home shortly after midnight, police had said.
Vaughn and 2-year-old Iryana K. Vaughn, also his daughter, had left the house minutes before police and paramedics arrived, Racine police said.
Racine police said they found the dead woman in response to a reported assault at 900 Racine St. She was not identified.
The missing pair were traveling in a 1998 Blue Ford Explorer with Illinois plate L320893 that was registered to Vaughn at an address in the 7600 block of South Colfax Avenue. The car was found parked just down the block from where Vaughn was arrested.
Vaughn has several convictions for domestic battery on his record.
