Area Roundup: GSW gets River Valley win

The Gardner-South Wilmington boys basketball team improved to 12-12 overall and 7-4 in the River Valley Conference Tuesday with a 67-56 win over Illinois Lutheran.

Brandon Riggi led the Panthers with 27 points, with Kwynn Rury adding 14 and both Dalton Wright and Hunter Eutsey finishing with eight.

GSW's sophomore team beat Illinois Lutheran 43-27.


Lisle 62,

Seneca 50

Jimmy David led the Fighting Irish with 21 points in Tuesday's loss. Peyton Schrag had 11 and Conlan Callahan finished with six.

"We dug ourselves a hole early in the first quarter and never recovered," Seneca coach Russell Witte said. "We battled all night long, cutting the lead to one on two separate occasions in the fourth, but just couldn't get that big stop when we needed it. I am proud of our kids' effort. We have to start games with the same intensity that we end the game with."

Seneca is now 14-11 and 6-2 in the Interstate Eight Conference.

Lisle won the sophomore game 39-32. The Seneca sophomores are 21-3 and 6-2 in conference.


Sandwich 55,

Coal City 49

Jon West finished with a team-high 16 points for the Coalers Tuesday night. Matt Halloran had 12, and Nick Peters finished with eight.


Reed-Custer 48,

Wilmington 33

Ryan Johnson led the Comets with 23 points. Tyler Foote had eight points and Dalton Kinzler finished with seven.


VOLLEYBALL

Shabbona def. ICS

25-19, 25-8

Jasmine Cook had seven points and four aces for Shabbona. Jessika Kodat finished the match with six points and four digs.


Seventh Grade

Coal City def. Channahon

25-14, 25-17

Kasey Hennessy and Maddie Halliday each had five points to lead Coal City.


Sixth Grade

Saratoga def. Seneca

26-24, 24-26, 16-25

Taylor Bushman had eight points for Seneca, while Britney Helms finished seven.

Saratoga won the B match 25-18, 25-21. Anna Spampanato had 12 service points for Seneca.


Seneca def. Marseilles

23-25, 25-18, 15-4

Eve Odum had seven points for Seneca.

Marseilles won the B game 25-10, 25-12. Anna Spampanto had eight points for Seneca.
