Saturday Sentinel: Introducing my new sports blog
Blogs are a big part when it comes to the media these days.
You see them everywhere.
Anyone who looks at morrisdailyherald.com has noticed the blogs on the front page.
Anybody who checks out the sports section of the website will see Mark Johnson's blog, the "Morris Mirror", below the main stories. Mark does a good job of providing his insight and opinions when it comes to the world of sports, whether it's the NFL, NBA, NHL or MLB.
This week, readers will had a new blog to look at, as my blog, the "Grundy Area Sports Scene," went up.
I figured in a town like Morris, having a blog specifically about prep and local sports would be a good thing to have up on the website. This blog will consist of smaller bits, stuff that we might not do a story on, yet are perfect for a 5-6 paragraph blog post.
My first blog post on Thursday night, I posted the regional and sectional assignments for the Morris and Minooka boys basketball teams. Things like that are perfect for blogs, and I will probably post stuff like that for every single sport.
Other aspects of the blog will include stuff like new coaches being named, all-conference teams, or prep schedule changes.
I also won't hesitate to put prep news from around the state, if I think it's worthy. And, expect to see my opinion on prep sports in the area and around the state here and there.
Whether it's with social media or blogs, the Morris Daily Herald has been active in the online community. Hopefully the readers will enjoy the new blog.
Interesting wrestling brackets
Not that this is anything new with Minooka wrestling, but the Indians won yet another regional title last week.
One thing I has always had a problem with when it comes to prep wrestling is how the IHSA sends eight teams to the state meet, and not four.
When class expansion happened, each sport got four teams down to state, whether it was baseball, basketball or volleyball.
Wrestling is exempt from that, as eight teams still make it down to the state tournament. Why is this?
Obviously, whenever I ask someone, whether it's a coach or another writer, the answer is always "so more teams can say they went to state."
That's pretty obvious, but why isn't that the case with basketball or volleyball?
Instead of four teams wrestling at a sectional, only two go in wrestling.
