Mercadante the right pick for county board

It has been my honor and privilege to serve the residents and taxpayers of District 1 on the Grundy County Board.

Since the election of a Republican majority in 2010, we have seen a big change in the direction of Grundy County government.

There has been an overall shift in a board that looks for ways to spend the taxpayers’ money — to one that looks to save the taxpayers’ money. We were able to pass an ordinance requiring voter approval of future public building projects — and, just recently, we did away with the generous health care benefits previously provided to the part-time politicians on the board.

But there is still much work to be done. There have been too many votes over the past few years for wasteful spending, specifically regarding new government building projects, including the 911 Center and the taxpayer-funded purchase of the Save-A-Lot building.

We don’t just need a Republican majority on the board, we need an accountable majority that puts the taxpayers’ views, concerns and, yes, money, first.

That’s why I am endorsing Curt Mercadante for Grundy County Board.

We need Curt on the board because he will be a consistent vote for honest, accountable, and limited government. His election is key to building an accountable, conservative governing majority that will fight wasteful spending, hold the line against tax hikes and provide increased government transparency.

It’s time for Grundy County government to live within its means. As a husband, father and small business owner, I know Curt Mercadante will be a tireless advocate to do just that.
