(MCT) — A 4.0-magnitude earthquake rattled towns in four Midwestern states including downstate Carbondale but no major damage was reported, officials said.
Residents in Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee and Kentucky reported feeling the ground shaking just before 4 a.m. Tuesday, WSIU Radio in Carbondale reported.
The quake was centered about five miles of East Prairie, Mo., about 16 miles from Cairo close to where Interstates 55 and 57 converge.
There were no reports of significant damage.
Late last month, a 2.4-magnitude quake sent tremors through tiny north suburban McHenry and several towns in Wisconsin.
The Associated Press contributed.
