Toni Majerczyk, of Channahon, poses with a plate of her winning sauerkraut recipe that earned her a spot on an upcoming Frank's Sauerkraut label.

CHANNAHON — There's a new celebrity in Channahon.

Her picture is already on the Frank's Sauerkraut website, along with her sauerkraut and dumpling recipe, but in the near future, she will be on labels of Frank's Sauerkraut in local grocery stores, as well.

Toni Majerczyk, of Channahon, was entered into Frank's National Search for Sweetness program by her daughter Gayle Allen and was selected to appear on the Frank's Sauerkraut label.

"We were looking for people to tell us how they make life sweet using Frank's Sauerkraut," said Chris Smith, vice president for The Fremont Kraut Company.

Majerczyk was selected because she was sharing something important to her and her family, and she is a longtime advocate for Frank's Sauerkraut, Smith said.

An average of 100 people submitted their photo and recipes to the program in each market so far, but only Majerczyk and one other person were selected for the program in Illinois.

When Allen told Majerczyk her photo and recipe were chosen for the label, Majerczyk shouted "get out of here!" because she was shocked and excited.

"I'm very excited," she said. "I'm 73 years old, and I've never had anything like this happen."

A photo of Majerczyk wearing a chef's coat from a time she was chosen to be "Chef of the Day" at a nursing home in Macomb, Ill., and her homemade sauerkraut and dumpling recipe will appear on the Frank's label.

"It's a Bohemian recipe," said Jan Kubas, another one of Majerczyk's daughters. "It's her grandmother's recipe."

Kubas said Majerczyk made some changes since the recipe was handed down to her, but it's definitely still a "crowd pleaser."

Sauerkraut and dumplings can now be found at all of Majerczyk's holiday gatherings and other family functions, but when it's not there, the family wonders what's wrong, she said.

Although Majerczyk was not sure when it would hit stores, she is very excited about her photo label.

"If I'm in the store and I see my picture, you know I'm going to show the first guy that walks by," she said.

Majerczyk said her family teases her a little bit about the program, but everyone is excited for her. Even her grandchildren are excited for grandma.
