Police increasing patrols for St. Patrick's Day

Published: Thursday, March 15, 2012 11:17 a.m. CDT

The Illinois State Police (ISP) is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and local police departments to remove drunk drivers from roadways.

The ISP will be conducting additional patrols this St. Patrick’s Day weekend concentrating on alcohol violations such as DUI, zero tolerance and underage drinking. The ISP and IDOT would like to remind drivers “You Drink, You Drive, You Lose."

“We are asking people to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day responsibly," Illinois State Police District 17 Commander Robert Atherton said. “Anyone consuming alcohol or hosting a party where alcohol is going to be served should make arrangements for everyone to get home safely."

“One traffic fatality is too many," added Commander Atherton.
