Tyler J. Severson, 18, of 1501 Walden Crescent, Morris, told Morris police he was traveling eastbound on West U.S. 6 approaching Creek Drive Friday, March 23, shortly before 3 p.m., when he collided with Kristen Jo Kutches, 20, of 2050 Kingtree Dr., Morris.

Severson said he looked down for a second at his radio and didn’t realize Kutches was stopped, waiting to turn left onto Creek Drive. Severson was unable to stop in time and struck Kutches’ vehicle in the rear bumper.

Kutches told police she was stopped on West U.S. 6 at Creek Drive, waiting for westbound traffic to clear so she could turn left, when she was struck from behind by Severson.

Severson’s vehicle sustained front-end damage. Kutches’ vehicle sustained damage to the rear end and passenger’s side rear quarter.

Morris police gave Severson a warning for failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
