The family and friends of the late Robyn White filled We Care's pantry on Friday, March 23.
The family donated $650 to purchase food and provided at least 10 volunteers to help unload 4,618 pounds of food that was ordered from Northern Illinois Food Bank.
“My family and I have decided to honor my late wife Robyn’s memory by helping those in need because it was a passion for her to take care of those in our community who needed help of any kind," Randy White said. "We’d like to thank all of our friends and family who helped."
During the month since the last Fill the Pantry, We Care has helped 192 families from its food pantry. We Care receives a monthly delivery of food for the pantry from the Northern Illinois Food Bank. The NIFB is able to provide food to Illinois food pantries at prices that are unattainable in grocery stores.
The delivery that the family and friends of Robyn White purchased and unloaded included 13-ounce boxes of cereal for 24 cents, 4-ounce bags of rice mix for 6 cents and 1.5-ounce pouches of oatmeal for 1 cent.
In addition to the food that We Care purchases with the donations, the food pantry also receives food that is provided for free as part of the Emergency Food Program. The EFP food included items such as whole kernel corn, peanut butter, pistachios and fresh pears.
Upcoming Fill the Pantry sponsors include New Community Christian Church, the Friends and Family of Lorraine R. Welch, Living Water Church of the Nazarene and United Meters Inc.
