The Morris baseball team collected a 7-3 win at Streator on Saturday to get the Redskins back to the .500 mark.
Jake Olson was the winning pitcher. He went six innings allowing four hits and he walked six while also striking out six. Two of the three runs he allowed were earned.
"Jake threw a great ballgame, and I was proud of the way he worked out a few of the jams," Morris coach Todd Kein said. "He hit his spots, the defense made key plays and offensively we were able to put the ball in play hard and push across runs when we needed them."
Offensively for the locals, Ryan Borgstrom was 3 for 3 at the plate with a run scored, walk, double and a stolen base; Jake Wilson was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBI and Jake Ruettiger had a double, run scored and an RBI. Ken Milosovic, Jason Matteson, Preston Miracle and Greg Struck added singles.
In the JV game afterwards, Morris won 8-4 behind pitchers Drew Aldrich and Nick Kelly.
Christian Niewinski and Jake Capko were each 2 for 3 at the plate and both had an RBI. Niewinski also had two runs scored. Kade Bashor was 2 for 2 with a double and three RBI. Grant Davis, Kevin Wendling, Borgstrom, Ryan Ties, Tyler Ward and Andrew Koscik also had hits.
In the sophomore contest, Morris won twice. In the first game, the Redskins won 12-2 in five innings. Trevor Lines was the winning pitcher with relief help from Matt Bernickus.
At the plate, Tim Smyk was 3 for 3 and Brock Kukman was 2 for 3.
In the second game, Morris won 9-3 behind the pitching of Nick Evola. Lines was 3 for 3 at the plate and he also had a suicide squeeze bunt that scored Bernickus. John Struck was 2 for 3 with a run scored.
On Friday against Centennial, Morris lost 5-0. Eric Robinson pitched 5 2/3 innings on the mound and at the plate Austin Conrod led the Redskins by going 2 for 3. Grant Schluntz also doubled.
Coal City at Rochester
With the two wins on Saturday, the Coalers improve to 7-5 on the season and in the process got Jerry McDowell the 400th win of his career.

Collin Miller got the pitching win against an Indians team that was 27-4 last year.
Nate Natyshok and Dominic Durando each had two hits and each scored a run.

Rochester 10
Coal City launched four homers in the contest, but still had to come from behind to get the win.
Alex Wills got his first varsity win for the Coalers and Naye Chapman pitched three innings for the save.
Nate Natyshok had three triples in the contest while Cody Onsen added five runs scored, five RBI and a homer.
"We are making big improvements. Nate Natyshok had hit the ball hard all week and the pitching is getting settled in," Coal City coach Jerry McDowell said. "We need it with 11 games in 10 days."
Seneca baseball on Southern Trip
The Fighting Irish went 3-2 on their annual southern trip this past week.

Brian Bergeson was the losing pitcher in an inning of work. Matt Wilson and Ryan Schuetz finished up on the hill going three and one innings, respectively.
Bergeson was 2 for 3 with three RBI in the contest while Chris Lee was 2 for 2 with two runs scored. Brent Bergeson had a hit with two RBI.
"We got off to a bad start and did not give up any Brian Bergeson any defensive support," Seneca coach Kirk Houchin said. "We committed all five errors in an eight-run second inning.

Brent Bergeson got the complete-game victory while striking out 16 in the win. He allowed five hits and a walk.
Offensively, Yaggi Pifer was 2 for 4 with a stolen base, Brandon Pasdertz was 2 for 3 with three RBI and Brent Bergeson and Trent Nugent had singles.
"Brent Bergeson was in total control on the mound," Houchin said. "He did a very good job of mixing up his speeds and locations. Danielle Hamilton called a good game behind the plate."

Pasdertz went all seven innings for the win. He yielded four walks and five hits while striking out four.
Hamilton had a hit and an RBI at the plate and Nick Stuedemann was 2 for 3.
"It was a well-played game defensively," Houchin said. "Matt Wilson had two gems at third base to help preserve the win. Paz was in total control on the mound. He threw strikes and let his defense work for him."

Josh Roeder was the winning pitcher, tossing the complete game. He yielded three hits and walked two while striking out one.
Pasdertz was 2 for 4 at the plate with a double and two RBI, Austin Granby was 2 for 4 with two RBI and both Trent Nugent and Brad Wyss had a hit each.
"It was the third game in a row with a win and a complete-game victory," Houchin said. "Josh threw strikes the entire game and mixed his pitches up well."

"We did not play well. We did make a nice comeback after being behind 7-2 when we put together a five-run third inning to tie the game," Houchin said. "But our pitching and defense let us down today. We had a very successful trip and improved our play. We are returning home with a much better and confident team."
Brian Bergeson had a double and an RBI at the plate while Pifer had a hit, Pasdertz 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Michael Osborne, Wilson and Matt Houchin added singles.
Tyler Bunker was the losing pitcher in relief of Nick Kirkton.

Jill Hetfleisch scored the lone goal of the game for the Indians and Alysha Alonzo had two saves in the non-conference tie on Saturday.
Minooka is 0-6-3 on the season.

Minooka girls at Plainfield North Tiger Relays
The Indians won the event with 137 team points, which was well ahead of North's 81 points.
Minooka collected 10 firsts on the day, including setting a new meet record in the long jump relay. In that event, the team of Lauren Jonen, Janile Rogers, Merdith Vesper and Taylor Prieboy had a combined distance of 61-6.25.
Jonen, Rogers, Vesper and Michelle Jakaitis were first in the triple jump relay with a distance of 120-11.
The 4x800 relay team of Caleigh Beverly, Kiley Saunders, Laura Simon and Haley McNamara were first in 10:11.49; the mid-distance relay team of Lucia Rossi, Nicole Johnson, Beverly and Mallory Maticic were first in 7:07.50; the 4x200 relay team of Chrissy Allen, Bethany Bachmann, Rogers and Angelica Estrada were first in 1:47.82; the 4x400 relay team of Bachmann, Mariah Divis, Estrada and Jonen won in 4:09.14 and the 800 sprint relay team of Allen, Bachmann, Estrada and Sara Bechard won in 1:54.31.
The Minooka JV team won the 4x100 race in :53.12 and the 4x200 relay race in 1:51.44. The 4x200 team of Bechard, Marah Kasuba, Prieboy and Kayla Yates set a new meet record. The 4x100 team was made up of Madison Angus, Kasuba, Divis and Yates.
"I was very proud of the way these girls competed today," Minooka coach Kevin Gummerson said. "Each one of them came to the track focused and excited about competing. We had a ton of bright spots as every single event was able to score points for us. We have a well-balanced team and it really showed today. There are a lot of positive signs coming from this team. We need to keep working and keep getting better each and every meet."
Minooka boys at Schaumbug Saxson Invitational
The Indians finished second at the event, scoring 102 1/2 points. Neuqua Valley won the Invite with a team score of 111.
Ethan Cane set a new school record in the long jump with a distance of 21-6. His performance was one of four firsts on the day, including Ryan Pullara in the pole vault. He cleared 13-6, which puts him at the top of the nation for freshman vaulters. Also for the varsity, Alex Wielbik cleared 13-0 and Joe Santillo won the 1600 in 4:27.2.
Additionally, Dan Popek was third in the 800 with a time of 1:57.35; Zach Zamora was third in the 110 high hurdles with a time of :16.26 and the 4x400 relay team of Wilson, Dan Ingram, Popek and Hopkins were third in 3:27.
Bobbie Kaluza was fourth in the 110 high hurdles with a time of :16.28 and Trevor Rogers was fourth in the discus with a throw of 138-9.
Minooka won the frosh-soph event with 130.5 points.
