Area Roundup: Morris softball falls in NIB 12 East contest

Morris softball got just two hits in an 8-0 loss to Sycamore on Thursday. Morgan Akre and Leah Lines had both hits for the Redskins.

Akre got the loss in the circle, giving up just one earned run.

The Redskins are now 5-8 and 1-2 in the Northern Illinois Big 12 East.


Minooka 4,

Plainfield South 0

Jackie Lilek threw seven scoreless innings for the Indians, striking out six. She is now 4-1.

Offensively, Lilek was 3 for 4 with a home run for the Indians. Mikayla Melone and Jordyn Larsen also hit homers. Sara Novak was 1 for 3 with a run scored and Kelsey Smith finished 1 for 3.

The Indians frosh-soph team lost 7-2 to Plainfield South. Caty Bell had a home run.


Coal City 20,

Grant Park 7

Gabby Bonic had a three-run homer for the Lady Coalers, finishing with three hits and six RBIs.  Maddy Bunton added three hits and three RBIs while Molly Manietta added three hits and two RBIs.

Morgan Youskevtch was the winning pitcher for Coal City, who is now 9-4.


GSW 11,

Plano 1

Emily Foley was the winning pitcher for the Lady Panthers, striking out nine to improve to 1-2. She allowed one walk and three hits.

At the plate, Katie Gretz went 2 for 3 with a home run, triple, RBI and three runs scored for GSW. Emily Foley was 1 for 2 with three runs scoring, Lexi Posing 2 for 4 with a run scored and three RBIs, and Kailyn Schultz 1 for 3 with a home run, two runs scored and an RBI. Sophie Barna went 1 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI.

"Emily did a very good job on the mound tonight, getting her first win of the season," GSW coach Michelle Lardi said. "We really got the bats going in the beginning and continued to hit throughout the game. All together, we did an all-around good job tonight."

GSW is now 4-10.


BASEBALL

Coal City 8,

Clifton Central 0

Sophomore lefty Nate Chapman was the winning pitcher for the Coalers in the non-conference victory. He went all seven innings, allowing two walks while striking out five.
