NEWARK — A mother and a daughter were arrested Thursday after a family brawl in Newark.

At approximately 4:45 p.m., according to Kendall County Sheriff’s Office records, deputies responded to the 15300 block of Lisbon Road on a domestic battery call for a fight between two family members.

At the residence, deputies learned that Kristen J. Slack, 22, of Newark, had reportedly battered a family member and cut the family member’s boyfriend with a broken piece from a ceramic bowl during the altercation.

In the middle of the scuffle, Slack’s mother, Darla G. Diepstra, 48, also of Newark, reportedly exited the residence and fired a shot into the air from a .40-caliber pistol to try to stop the fighting.

Slack was arrested for domestic battery and Diepstra was arrested for reckless discharge of a firearm and not having a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card.
