(MCT) — An employee at Stroger Hospital took his own life after injuring a woman who also works there during a domestic incident inside the hospital this afternoon, officials said.
The incident started about 2:25 p.m. and ended about 4 p.m. inside the basement level of the hospital in the 1900 block of West Ogden Avenue, according to police. Police were called in to help with "a disturbance between two employees."
The man was identified as Ramon Washington, 38, of the 10800 block of South Calumet Avenue, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. He was pronounced dead at 4:12 p.m.
Officials said Washington and the woman were employees of John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County and were inside when the Washington attacked the woman, who is listed in “stable” condition this afternoon.
Sources said Washington took his own life by slitting his throat after attacking the woman. The woman sustained minor injuries to her upper torso, officials said. The two employees worked in the kitchen of the hospital, officials said.
Marisa Kollias, a hospital spokeswoman, said the public was never in danger and no one else was injured.
